Two boat race to the finish

Photographers have sighted Alfa Romeo and Grundig 60 miles from Tasman Island and only a few miles apart.

Photographers covering the Rolex Sydney Hobart Race by helicopter have this afternoon reported a sighting of Neville Crichton's Alfa Romeo and Sean Langman's Grundig 60 miles from Tasman Island and only a few miles apart.

"Grundig is in hot pursuit of Alfa Romeo, it is obviously going to be a great finish," said photographer Ian Mainsbridge. "There is a real race on out there."

With approximately three hours of sailing to Tasman Island and another three to the finish line off Hobart's Battery Point, race organisers estimate a finish between 6.00pm and 7.00pm.

The fleet will radio in their positions at this afternoon's 2.05pm sked. Full details on the rest of the fleet will be available following the sked.
