The Lord Mayor of Hobart, Rob Valentine, today accepted the City of Sydney Flag from the Commodore of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, Martin James, to fly for the rest of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

The Mayor of the City of Sydney, Clover Moore, MP and Rob Valentine agreed last week that they would fly each city's respective flag during the 2004 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

The City of Sydney accepted the Hobart flag at a race preview event at Sydney’s Martin Place on Tuesday 21 December.

Both Mayor’s wished the fleet of 116 a safe trip to Hobart and agreed to continue the tradition for future races.

“At 60 years of age, most are looking to retire.  But this bluewater classic is in its prime and is seen as a lasting bond between our cities and the fearless seafarers that ply between them,” Mr Valentine said.

The flags will come down at the end of the race.
