Perfect first Hobart for navigator Penny Haire on Heaven Can Wait

Brisbane yacht Heaven Can Wait arrived at Constitution Dock, Hobart this morning after what can only be described as a perfect run for the Queensland first timer.

Brisbane yacht Heaven Can Wait arrived at Constitution Dock, Hobart this morning after what can only be described as a perfect run for the Queensland first timer.

Peter Hollis, a prominent member of the RQYS and a one-time world champion, skippered the 15 metre yacht alongside a mixed crew of Queenslanders and NSW yachtsmen including navigator Penny Haire, a Fastnet veteran from the UK who was also making her debut in the great race south.

“We are pretty proud of Penny and her achievements as navigator,” said Hollis.

“We were told to expect perfection and now we know what people were talking about.

“She has changed her nickname now from Penny the Sort to Penny the Geek - her technical knowledge is amazing.

“We were off to a brilliant start out of Sydney matching the big boys, then had plenty of good spinnaker runs down the coast - we match-raced Yendys pretty much all the way.

“Unfortunately, the crew of Yendys got to open the first beer at Constitution Dock, but only just!”

Peter Hollis’ family was on dry land watching Heaven Can Wait’s every move on the Rolex Sydney Hobart Website, via the YachtTracker.

“The Yacht Tracker is the best piece of equipment to come along in a very long time,” agreed the Hollis family.

“We actually feel like we are part of the race now and feel closer to Peter as he makes his way down the coast.”

The season is not over for Heaven Can Wait yet.  After a well deserved rest the yacht will return to Sydney at the end of the week to take part in a number of regattas in preparation for the Queensland season.
