It was an interesting trip down south for Geelong Yacht Club’s 42 footer, Prowler as she crept into Hobart this morning, with conditions experienced across the race that were described as a real mixed bag.

“When the sailing was good it was great” comments one of the weary crew downing a well deserved beer, and when it was bad, well the descriptions become a little more colourful.

Hitting the strong winds more than once during the race the Victorian boat knew they were in for a bit of a bit of fast ride but did not expect to cover as much ground as they did during certain parts of the journey.

“I reckon we managed to do between Ulladulla and Eddystone Pt within 24 hours, not bad for an old girl,” said Skipper Christian Jackson.

“We lost all instruments just after Flinders Island so we have been sailing blind ever since but we made it and are overall are pretty happy with what we have been able to achieve this Rolex Sydney Hobart.”

Last year was the first trip to Hobart for Prowler placing 18th at the finish and placing 9th on IRC corrected time in a very rough race. In 2005 the boat has placed 22nd over the line coming in at 2 days, 22 hours, 48 minutes and 13 seconds.

What’s on the agenda for Prowler next year?

According to Jackson the crew is looking forward to next year but will take on the Skandia Geelong Week to see how Prowler copes before trying to dress her up for 2006.
