Swedes Were Ready for the Chill Factor

Savcor, a chartered Sydney 38 thought to be the first fully Swedish-crewed entry to finish the race in its history, has finished fifth in its division crossing 46th at the end of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race last night.

Savcor, a chartered Sydney 38 thought to be the first fully Swedish-crewed entry in the history of the race, has finished fifth in its division crossing 46th at the end of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race last night.

Savcor was campaigned by a Swedish sailing team which competed in this year’s Rolex Fastnet Race and which worked closely with Getaway Sailing to charter a local Sydney 38.

The team is headed Peter Westerlund, a keen and experienced yachtsman.

"We are used to cold and wet races, so we should be comfortable in Bass Strait,” Peter said before the race.

After reaching Hobart, he looked much relieved.  He said the crew had been warned to expect minus 10 degree temperatures as they sailed into southern Tasmania!
