Films that highlight the history of the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race

As we move closer to the start of the 70th edition of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race it’s a good opportunity to look back on how our great race has developed into a national iconic sporting and maritime event.

Over the coming weeks we’ll be bringing you some wonderful films highlighting the history of the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

We start with footage from the very first race held in 1945 with the silent film, when nine boats set out from Sydney Harbour with eight boats finishing. A race that set the foundation for what is the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia and what is now the most famous and challenging blue water yacht race in the world.

In future weeks we’ll bring you the race films of 1964, 1974, 1994 (the 50th edition of the race) and the 2004 edition of Rolex Spirit of Yachting.

If you can’t wait until then feel free to visit CYCATV  where you’ll find archival films of the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, the entire back catalogue of Rolex Spirit of Yachting – Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race from 2002 to 2013 plus other films and interviews which we think you will find interesting.

We hope you enjoy this series of historical films as we lead up to the 70th Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
