Transpacific Race as lead-up to 2003 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race

Krakatoa, which recorded the fastest elapsed time in 58 years for a boat under 10 metres LOA in last year’s Hobart Race, early next month will contest the 2,225 mile Transpacific Yacht Race as a lead-up to the 2003 Rolex Sydney Hobart.

New 30 metre super maxi being built for 2003 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race

The largest ocean racing yacht ever built in Australia, a 30 metre super maxi for Victorian yachtsman Grant Wharington, will contest this year’s Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. This is the most innovative of Wharington’s line of fast boats named Wild Thing and is under construction at Mornington, Victoria, due to be launched in late August.

Increase in IRC upper limit for Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race through to 2005

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia today announced a slight increase in the IRC upper limit, from 1.6 to 1.61, and the incorporation of an absolute size limit of 30 metres LOA, effective for this year’s Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
