Galaxy III

Galaxy III has previously contested four Sydney Hobarts: in 1984 she finished 44th, in 1986 she retired, 1988 she was 69th and in the 50th anniversary race the S&S39 finished fifth in PHS, the latter under the ownership of Barry Luxton. Now owner, Chris Canty, is bringing her back for the 75th race after completing a circumnavigation in 2018. While the circumnavigation was mainly cruising SE trade winds, there were challenging conditions around the Cape of Good Hope and off the coast of Columbia, where the Andes mountains meet the Caribbean, that tested Galaxy III and stand her in good stead for the Rolex Sydney Hobart. Like all the other golden oldie S&S’s in the race, if the going gets tough, Galaxy III will hang strong.
