Profile
Ashok Mani, owner of the Iron Pot Bay Vineyard in the Tamar Valley, purchased this S&S 48, Windrose and made their Sydney Hobart debut in 2019. She will be skippered again this year by 25-year-old Sam McCracken.
Two years after her launch, Windrose represented the US in the winning 1961 Admiral’s Cup, skippered by Jakob Isbrandtsen. She represented again in 1963 and 1965, the US team finishing second and fourth respectively. Windrose then made the transition to a cruising yacht, sailing around the Pacific from the late 1970’s. She is built of mahogany on oak frames, double planked above the turn of the bilge and with the classic hourglass hull shape.
This beautiful yacht will be right at home with the other S&S boats, such as Love & War and Western Morning.
