MCQ Polaris
Chris Dawe purchased MCQ Polaris at the beginning of the year having sold his previous boat, Andromeda III, in which he completed the 2002 Rolex Sydney Hobart Race and a couple of Melbourne-Hobart and Bass Strait races.
Dawe learnt to sail in Wellington, NZ, and bought Polaris because he’s seen how nasty the ocean can get. Having a heavy boat will cost him speed in the light airs when the newer and lighter designs take off, but as he points out, “the weather isn't always kind”.
The boat is on the roll of the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron, the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria and the Gosford Sailing Club and this year will be the boat’s 20th anniversary Rolex Sydney Hobart Race.
