Sanyo Maris
To celebrate her 50th birthday, Maris is coming out of retirement thanks to major sponsor Sanyo and secondary sponsor Veoila. Ian Kiernan will skipper the boat with a world class crew including Hugh Treharne, and Ian’s new partners in Maris: John Green, Tiare Tomaszewki and Ben Hawke. Sanyo Maris will be an active part of the CYCA’s major blue water races. Ben and Tiare are grandchildren of the yacht’s original owner, Jack Earl, and children of Jack’s daughter Maris, for whom the boat was named.
Ian also competed in BOC round the world race, numerous Admiral’s Cups and many other regional and international races.
Maris has a wealth of ocean racing experience including a win in Division F in the 1997 Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, winner Division F & Veterans in 1995 Sydney Gold Coast and 2nd on corrected time for the 1999 Lord Howe Island Race. Sanyo Maris competed in the 2008 Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race, but had to withdraw due to gear failure shortly after passing Coffs Harbour.
