AFR Midnight Rambler

AFR Midnight Rambler

The experienced team of Ed Psaltis and Bob Thomas have teamed up with long-time crew mate Michael ‘Mix’ Bencsik as co-owners of the brand new Ker 40 AFR Midnight Rambler.  The three owners have sailed in a combination of 67 Hobart races no fewer than 15 Hobarts together on different boats - including their overall handicap victory in the 1998 Hobart race aboard the little Hick 35 AFR Midnight Rambler.  In addition to the teams’ success together, Bencsik has recently returned to Australia after a stint in the UK where he and Bob Thomas competed in the Rolex Fastnet Race this year.  Joined by their regular crew, the team are ready for the Hobart Race and another chance at winning The Tattersall’s Cup.

In the modified Farr 40 AFR Midnight Rambler they previously owned they achieved multiple divisional wins including a well deserved Blue Water Pointscore Championship in 2006/07 and Short Ocean Point Score in the same season.  Psaltis and Thomas have won every offshore race on the east coast including the Rolex Sydney Hobart, the Lord Howe Island Race twice, the Sydney Mooloolaba Race (twice) and finally succeeded in winning the Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race in 2009 having previously won their division three times.
