Gweilo
Gweilo (Cantonese slang for ‘white man’ or ‘ghost man’) was new to Australia and the race last year when Matt Donald and Chris Townsend purchased the former Container/Calm 2/Viento II and sailed her in last year’s Rolex Sydney Hobart. The TP52 finished fourth overall in July 2019’s Noakes Sydney Gold Coast race and scored a trio of third places in the inaugural Brisbane Hamilton Island race, Flinders Islet Race and Newcastle Bass Island Race and more recently won both their division and IRC overall in the Cabbage Tree Island race. This yacht and crew are definitely moving on up. A tough call to pick the top TP52 this year but Gweilo is one of many in the hunt.
