Katwinchar

Bill Barry-Cotter bought the historical Katwinchar, which was built in 1904 in the Watney Brewery in London for proprietor, W. Watney. The 32ft ketch is the oldest confirmed yacht to have ever done the race. She was sailed to Australia by E.J. Mossop, who competed in the 1951 Sydney Hobart, but went missing, until arriving in Hobart on 3 January; retired. Barry-Cotter has been a name in the marine industry since the late sixties and is best known for building luxury cruisers: Mariner, Riviera and Maritimo. He found Katwinchar in a dilapidated state, and has painstakingly rebuilt and restored her over two years. Barry-Cotter has raced power boats and has done the Sydney Hobart. He sailed the self-built Ghost, skippered by his brother Kendal, to a divisional win in the 1976 race. On board are well-known Sydney Hobart identities Michael Spies and Robert Case.
