SWD Kayle

SWD Kayle

Kayle is purpose-built - ergonomically designed to accommodate people with disabilities. The first year Sailors with disABILITIES participated in the race was in 1994 - the 50th Sydney Hobart. They have raced in many since then with podium outcomes; winning in PHS 2007, seventh in 2013 and eleventh in 2015.

In 2003, Sailors with disABILITIES skippered by Pescud, with a disabled crew, broke the Around Australia world record monohull non-stop and unassisted record, which it still holds today. In late October 2015, he and a mainly SWD disabled crew set the Sydney-Lord Howe Island record aboard their SWD TP52 Wot Eva. With a disabled crew, they also famously won PHS overall in the 1998 Sydney Hobart with a former yacht. In 2007 SWD finished seventh in PHS in the Rolex Sydney Hobart. Pescud’s main focus is giving disabled and underprivileged people an opportunity to build optimism and skills through sailing.
