Hip-Nautic (TH)
Jean-Pierre Ravanat has smartly co-opted the services of Drew Meincke, a navigator with 21 Sydney Hobarts behind him. The Tasmanian is also a highly qualified Master Mariner and has worked around the world. He is also a qualified marine surveyor. Hip-Nautic was christened by her French owner, Jean-Pierre Ravanat, last November. She is one of the many Sun Fast designs in the race that Jeanneau tailor made for short-handed sailing, making them popular for those who enjoy the sport in this way. Ravanat may be new to the race, as is Hip-Nautic, but he is a seasoned sailor and skippered his new yacht to third under IRC in the 2020 Launceston to Hobart race. The versatile yachtsman also skippered Slingshot to third catamaran to finish the 2011 Three Peaks Race among other results. Hip-Nautic placed seventh in November’s 180nm Maria Island Race.
