Whisper

Owned by CYCA Director David Griffith, Whisper is a JV62 that he sailed to sixth over the line and 48^th overall in the 2023 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. Griffith is enjoying an excellent season, currently second overall in the Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore, finishing second over the line in the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race for sixth overall, third in the Flinders Islet Race, second in the Tollgate Islands Race and fourth in the Bird Island Race. Griffith, a past 18 footers skiff champion, also took line honours and broke the race record in the 2020 Adelaide to Port Lincoln Race – that record still holds. Whisper also holds the race record for the CYCA’s Montague Island Race, which has been discontinued.

Formery the yacht was owned by Rupert Henry and named Chinese Whisper. Henry and Greg O’Shea sailed the yacht in the 2018 double-handed in 5500 nautical mile Melbourne Osaka Yacht Race, taking Line and Overall honours and breaking the race record by five days.  Renamed Whisper on 20 November 2020, Griffith gave the yacht a major refit, including a deeper, lighter, hollow steel fin and a reduced bulb and continues to update her.
