Beautemps (DH)
A third Sydney Hobart for Rod Smallman, who contested the race in 2019 and 2021, but a first for his co-skipper, Alex Toomey. Both are experienced fully crewed and double handed sailors, offshore racing out of Victoria – together and separately.
On his former Sunfast Jeanneau 3600 named Maverick, Smallman finished third overall in the 5500 nautical mile Melbourne Osaka double handed race in 2018, co-skippered by his son Tyson. This updated 3600, the former Amitie, is now known as Beautemps. Toomey has sailed his own yacht Ryujin, double handed and fully crewed. The two should make a good team for the upcoming Rolex Sydney Hobart and could end up on the podium.
