Chutzpah
Last year Chutzpah won Division 2. In fact, since owing his own boats from 1986, Taylor has amassed 26 divisional wins or places. In 2023 he and son Drew celebrated 30 Hobarts together (a record) with third in Division 2, while navigator Kingsley Piesse celebrated his 40th straight Sydney Hobart.
Taylor, a semi-retired orthodontist and his nine crew boast 303 Hobarts between them, a record in itself. Taylor has come very close to winning the race. His most painful was second overall to Wild Rose by a little under 39 minutes in 2014. He was fourth in 2007 and fifth in 2013.
The Caprice 40 holds the race record for yachts under 12.5 metres with a time of 2 days 4 hours 10 minutes and 37 seconds. With previous Chutzpahs, Taylor produced second overall in 1990, ninth in 1994, finishing second in IMS Division (371 boats raced) and sixth in 2001. Since 1986, the Victorian has owned six offshore Chutzpahs. This dedicated crew would love to win the 80th Sydney Hobart.
