Love & War
Last year, Simon Kurts’ son Phil skippered Love & War to Hobart for the first time and won Division 5, having already done seven Hobarts with Simon on this famous S&S47. She is the second of only three boats to win the race three times in 1974, 1978 and 2006.
Celebrating her 50th birthday in 2023, Simon sailed her to 30th overall. Before that, she placed third in 2021 to win Division 4 and in 2019, placed third in Division 7 and second in the Grand Veterans division. In 2016, she was third in Division 4 and second in the Corinthian division.
In 2014, she placed seventh for second in Division 4, won the 30 year Veterans and placed second in the 20 year Veterans. Launched for Peter Kurts in 1973, Love & War was the favourite of all yachts he owned and raced – and the only one he kept. Peter represented Australia at the 1975 Admiral’s Cup with her and she’s at her best in a good blow.
