Master Lock Comanche
Matt Allen and James Mayo return after retiring Master Lock Comanche early last year with mainsail damage. Allen is the newest owner of a trio to win the Sydney Hobart three times with the same boat (his TP52, Ichi Ban).
Mayo won the 1999, 2024 and 2025 Etchells Worlds and did the 1986 and 1987 Hobarts on Sovereign, taking the double line and overall win in 1987. John Winning Jr sailed Comanche as Andoo Comanche in 2022, taking Line Honours and but lost to LawConnect by 51 seconds in 2023. First owned by American Jim Clark and wife Kristy, Comanche finished 49 mins behind Line Honours victor, Wild Oats XI in 2014, but took Line Honours in 2015.
Jim Cooney/Samantha Grant bought the yacht and as LDV Comanche, took Line Honours and the race record in 2017, after a protest against the initial claimant, Wild Oats XI. Cooney last sailed her in the 2019 race and took Line Honours. Had ups and downs, but she is the yacht to beat.
