Tradition

Tradition

Built to the old IOR rule, Tradition was designed and built by Hobart’s Max Creese for Rob Gough’s father, David, who did the 1984 and 1988 Hobarts with her, but retired from both. Gough Jr bought the yacht from local, Tim Gourlay, three years ago, “Because it’s a beautiful boat, has a beautiful feel to it and I want to keep it in the family,” Gough says.

John Saul, who double handed with Gough in the 2021 race (Sidewinder – they took two-handed Line Honours) and ’22 and ’23 Hobarts on Kraken III (winning the 2023 Tollgate Islands Race from Andoo Comanche), is aboard. “My 19-year-old son, James, is doing his first Hobart with us.

The rest of the crew are local good friends.” Gough has spent the last three years refurbishing Tradition. Their ambition? “To finish the race.”
