Wild Oats
Gordon Smith retired Wild Oats from the 2024 race after suffering rig damage. This Farr 43 was bought by a syndicate in 2020 who reverted to her original name. She placed second in PHS Division 2 in 2023, after 26th overall in 2021 and fourth in PHS in 2019. When owned by Roger Hickman as Wild Rose, she won the 2014 Hobart, with division wins the previous three years.
With partners Bruce Foye and Lance Peckman, Hickman skippered the Farr 43 to co-win the extreme 1993 race under IOR with IMS winner, Cookoos Nest. Hickman was a forerunner in bringing women into ocean racing before his untimely death in 2016. The ‘Wild Rose Pointscore’ in the CYCA’s Audi Centre Sydney BWPS is named in his honour to promote women in sailing. Wild Oats was first owned by Bob Oatley.
