The Queensland yacht Wedgetail, helmed by yachtswoman Vanessa Dudley, is currently placed second in division B of the IRC handicap section of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

The Queensland yacht Wedgetail, helmed by world champion and round-the-world yachtswoman Vanessa Dudley, is currently placed second in division B of the IRC handicap section of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

Wedgetail crossed the finish line at 10.28am today after close racing throughout with the current division B leader Chieftain, Loki, Hardy’s Secret Men’s Business, Quantum Racing and Living Doll.

“The first day’s sailing didn’t help us, dead down wind and a bit light,” skipper Bill Wild said on reaching Hobart.

“We were looking for breeze and it took a bit of time on the second day to come. When it got there, we got heaps of it.

“We had 45 knots across the deck at one stage off the north-east coast.

“The important decisions for us were to stay in the middle and to stay in touch with the people we were racing against.”

Dudley was one of the two specialists on the helm of Wedgetail.
