It was a spectacular two days of sailing over the weekend.

The 2020 Sydney Hobart Classic Yacht Regatta brought together the greatest collection of Sydney Hobart Yacht Race winners ever assembled to sail against each other.

The fleet for the Regatta, held over the weekend, boasted no fewer than nine handicap & line honours wins between them, plus scores of podium finishes, including.

  • Nerida which won the Tattersall Cup in 1950;
  • Margaret Rintoul which won Line Honours the same year & again in 1951;
  • Solveig which won overall in 1954 when campaigned by Sydney-Hobart legends Trygve & Magnus Halvorsen after having taken Line Honours the previous year in 1953;
  • Anitra V which won again for the Halvorsens in 1957;
  • Fidelis which took Line Honours in 1966;
  • Love & War which won the Overall handicap prize in both 1974 & 1978; and
  • Kialoa II which won “the double” - Line Honours & Overall trophies in 1977.

In addition to these, the fleet of 26 entrants featured a host of other yachts with distinguished Sydney Hobart histories. They include the beautiful classic ketch Archina, a 'first fleeter' which sailed in the very first race back in 1945 & came third in 1948.

Among the other famous veteran ocean racers competing in the Regatta will be Caprice of Huon, Lolita, Southerly, Vittoria & Mister Christian.

DAY 1 - Saturday's racing saw a scratch start with Nigel Stoke's Fidelis (RSYS) steaming home for the PHS handicap win in Division 1, Eddy Vinks' Boongown (CYCA) claim Division 2 and Sir James Hardy's Nerida (RSYS) take home Division 3. Click here for full results.
