Start & Finish Villages

The Rolex Sydney Hobart is more than a yacht race; it's a festival celebrating the sport we love. With race villages in Sydney at the start and in Hobart at the finish line, there's plenty to celebrate from beginning to end.

Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race - Sydney Race Village

There’s something for everyone at the Sydney Race Village located at the CYCA in Darling Point – from 16 December until after the Race begins.

Visitors and guests are welcome to participate in the Sydney Race Village festivities from the opening of the Village until after the start of the Rolex Sydney Hobart. The Village has a number of attractions and events including the Commodores Beer & Prawn Night on 16 December with all welcome but bookings through the CYCA website are essential. Following this is the highly anticipated Rolex Sydney Hobart Crew Party on 21 December. Organised by the CYCA Associates Committee, one of the Club’s biggest December events boasts a DJ and late-night dance floor – free to attend for all Rolex Sydney Hobart crew.

Finally, the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race on Boxing Day will see the Club open its doors to everyone for Family Day. The Race Village will be a hub of activity with face painters, games and family-friendly fun, plus a variety of other food and drink options.

The start of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race will again be live-streamed on the big screen in the Village, and the Musto merchandise shop will be open to all with their wide range of official race clothing. The Sydney Race Village is the best place to enjoy the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race with plenty of dockside fun!

The CYCA acknowledges the contribution of its major sponsor, Rolex, and the many other sponsors including JANUS et Cie for their high-quality furniture, Mumm Champagne for their outstanding product and similarly Carlton and United Breweries for their premium beer. Oatley Wines, Smartsheets and RMS allow us to deliver exceptional social and sailing events while John Winning, and his business Appliances Online, gives the club usage of JBW as the radio relay vessel for the race. Our thanks also go to Moreton Hire for their support in the construction of the race village.

As competitors make their way down the coast, Tasmania gets the party started.

At midday on 27 December, Constitution Dock becomes Hobart Race Village: the finish line, the heart of the party celebrating the arrival and achievement of crews, and the buzzing gathering spot for competitors, travellers and locals.

Hobart Race Village is open from midday to 10 pm on 27 December, and then every day from 10 am to midnight until the end of the race. On New Year’s Eve, the village stays open until 1.30 am – a great chance to welcome the New Year with fireworks and Hobartian good cheer.

Gather at Hobart Race Village for a packed line-up of entertainment, feasting, family fun, displays and information. Live performances feature on the Race Village stage, between race presentations. Meanwhile, Hobart’s 7HOFM broadcasts live, keeping the party firing.

This year the Hobart Race Villiage will have activities and attractions for people of all ages. There will be children’s games and activities, Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race official merchandiser, Musto, selling official race merchandise in the village, multiple local food and drink vendors to choose from, live bands performing as well as celebrated Tasmanian yachting photographer Richard Bennett will again be displaying his stunning imagery.

The Taste of Tasmania

Nearby on the waterfront, at Princes Wharf, The Taste of Tasmania festival is in full swing from 28 December to 3 January. This is Australia’s oldest and largest food and wine festival, and a race tradition since 1988. This is the chance to sample local flavours and meet close to 100 stallholders: the farmers and winemakers, butchers and bakers, distillers and makers of Tasmania’s best food and drinks. New and emerging producers are joined by festival favourites this year in one of the most multicultural programs in the festival’s history. Events include cooking classes, workshops and tastings. Entry to The Taste of Tasmania is free, with the exception of some premium ticketed events, including a New Year’s Eve party featuring 65 Tassie performers.

Hobart Race Village would not be possible without the support of our major sponsor, Rolex, and many other sponsors including Mumm Champagne, and Carlton & United Breweries. Long-time and steadfast local supporters include TasPorts, Tourism Tasmania and Hobart City Council. 7HOFM continues to play a valuable role as the official broadcaster from the race village, and Piper’s Brook Vineyard supplies its fantastic wines.
