An Alan Payne design, Nirimba was built in steel by the RAN apprentices as a training project in 1966 and has since remained in commission with the Navy's RANSA club in Sydney, competing in five Sydney Hobart races with Navy crews in recent years. A broken forestay fitting forced her retirement from last year's event.
