With her sister ship, Admiral Nevelskoi, this much sailed training sloop came to Australia could to contest the 1988 Tall Ships Race from Hobart to Sydney, finishing 30th in class C. Skipper Gamanov was in command then and at least two of his crew also came, sailing the yacht from Launceston to Fremantle, then to Hobart for the Tall Ships Race. If they could charter a third yacht, the Soviet will have a team in the Southern Cross Cup.
