Profile

In her Rolex Sydney Hobart debut in 2005, this state-of-the-art 30m maxi with canting ballast twin foil (CBTF) took line honours in record time and won the Tattersall's Cup – the only boat to take the trifecta since Rani in the first race in 1945. Wild Oats XI picked up back-to-back line honours in the 2006 race and is this year aiming for the hat trick, a feat not achieved since Morna beat the fleet to Hobart in the 1946-1948 races. Wild Oats XI was dramatically dismasted at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Sardinia in September but is expected back on the water by 10 December.  She is currently on the hardstand undergoing minor repairs before her new mast is stepped.  Wild Oats XI's first event in the lead up to the Boxing Day ocean classic will be the SOLAS Big Boat Challenge on Tuesday 11 December.  The outstanding crew line for Hobart up boasts an amazing 233 Hobarts collectively and includes Iain Murray, Peter Shipway, Steve Jarvin, Billy Merrington and Robbie Naismith.
