Profile

Purchased in March 2009 from the UK, Calm is a fourth generation Farr TP 52, built by Goetz Custom Boats in RI and developed to compete on the European and US TP 52 circuits. Designed and built beyond typical MedCup standards, this boat is an all purpose design and capable of offshore racing in any condition. She was launched in 2006 as Stay Calm and immediately won Key West Race Week and showed great performance in the 2006 Global Championships and 2006 Med Cup Series. The boat was then optimised to the current IRC rule and has raced at Cowes Week / Cork Week and sailed all the major Solent regattas.

Since arriving in Australia in May last year, the owners Jason Van Der Slot, Graeme Ainley and John Williams spent five months putting the boat together and giving it as  much time on the water as possible. In late 2009, Calm took line and IRC honours in the ORCV’s  Melbourne to Stanley race prior to taking to the start line of the Rolex Sydney Hobart. Calm finished 21st across the line and tenth in division in last year’s Rolex Sydney Hobart and is looking at finishing a lot higher up the leaderboard this year.

The crew have spent the last 12 months getting to know the boat and have used the Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race and other ocean races to prepare for this year’s Hobart. In this year’s Audi Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race Calm was performing exceptional well until a broken bow sprit placed her further back in the field to finish 14th overall
