Profile
Ted Tooher finished eighth in PHS last year after retiring with sail damage in 2021 and this year racks up his 17th Hobart. A Beneteau fan from way back, prior to this boat, Tooher had a Beneteau 47.7 of the same name and before that, he owned this same Beneteau 40 and raced in the 2010 (37th) and 2011 (60th) Rolex Sydney Hobarts before selling it to Matthew Vadas and Jonathon Stone, who raced her to Hobart in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016.
Before Tooher repurchased her, the yacht last raced to Hobart in 2019 as HYC Breakthrough, sailed by an Irish crew headed by Darren Wright. He may not finish the Sydney Hobart at the top of the pile, but that’s because the generous Tooher gives opportunities to local and international sailors that they might not otherwise receive.
