Profile
Kanreki is a Corinthian entrant in the 2025 Rolex Sydney to Hobart Race, proudly representing the Manly Yacht Club in Sydney.
The boat was purchased in 2023 by its current owners, Ben Martin and Michael Rowe, as a celebration of their 60th birthdays. The boat’s name, “Kanreki”, draws from a Japanese tradition in which the 60th birthday marks a rebirth and celebrates new beginnings.
The crew is largely drawn from Manly and Newcastle and includes a 50% representation of female sailors, including navigator Peta Rose. The team also includes William Hough, the youngest sailor in the event for 2025, who recently turned 18.
This is the team’s second season aboard Kanreki and the team will be aiming to build on the experience gained in their first season, which included a 3rd in IRC Division 3 of the 2024 Rolex Sydney to Hobart Race. Team Kanreki will be looking forward to a strong showing in the Corinthian Division as well as the Wild Rose Pointscore, for yachts with more than 25% female crew.
A Cookson 12 is yet to win the Sydney Hobart, but if the conditions are right for the smaller boats, this is the one that could.
