MWF Kayle

Owned by the Making Waves Foundation, MWF Kayle is a custom-built Lyons 54 ocean racing yacht designed to be accessible for everyone and is the primary delivery training vessel for the Foundation’s program. The Foundation is made up of a team of dedicated volunteers who are passionate about sailing and committed to supporting and encouraging participants to realise their protentional. The Foundation first raced to Hobart in 1994 and scored their top result in 2007 when they won the PHS division. In the 2023 Hobart, with John Whitfeld in the skipper role, the team sailed to fourth in PHS and third in PHS Division 1.

Prior to 2023, the Lyons 53 last raced to Hobart in 2019 as Kayle - Sailors With Disabilities, as well as in 2015 and finished PHS 11th – again with Whitfeld  skippering. The yacht was seventh in 2013 as Faceboat Sailors with disABILITIES and David Pescud skippered it to PHS victory in 2007. He also led a disabled crew to shatter the circumnavigation of Australia monohull record in 2003, which still holds today.
